Our Products

We use Bona and Galaxy because of their long-standing excellence in the floor sanding industry and the superior quality of their floor sanding performance.

We have tried and tested many products and have found the following to be the best in the industry for durability and effect. We promote and support products that we know and truly believe to be the best. Choose between Matt, Satin, or Gloss. We use Bona and Duraseal stains (SEE BELOW) which are renowned for their quality and durability. Sometimes customers ask us to match stains with a staircase or a piece of furniture. This is not an easy task. However, we always perform color stain tests on the wood of the floor. The client selects a few stains and we put them directly on their floor, so they can see how it will look with their specific type of wood. Once they find a color they are happy with, we then stain the entire floor with it. Floors do tend to change color slightly over time due to sunlight, wear, and oxidization.
We prefer water based lattexes over oils for the following reasons: Moidern day latexes are superior to oils in virtually every way except glossiness. In 2012, most of the oils that were on the market became banned, such as Crystal, because they were deemed too toxic. So these oils were reformulated to match helath reuirements, but in the process became inferior products to their previous formulations. Latexes are:

  1. Quick drying: Latex finishes generally dry faster than oil-based finishes. They can dry to the touch within a few hours, allowing for quicker recoating and minimal downtime.
  2. Low odor: Latex finishes have a lower odor compared to oil-based finishes, which can be particularly beneficial in indoor environments where strong odors may be a concern.
  3. Water cleanup:Latex finishes are water-based, so they can be easily cleaned up with water and soap. This makes the cleanup process simpler and more environmentally friendly compared to the solvents required for cleaning oil-based finishes.
  4. Low VOC content: Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are potentially harmful chemicals emitted by certain products, including some oil-based finishes. Latex finishes typically have lower VOC content, making them a preferable choice for individuals who are sensitive to or concerned about indoor air quality.
  5. Color retention: Latex finishes tend to retain their color well over time, without yellowing or darkening as oil-based finishes can sometimes do. This can help maintain the appearance of the floor for a longer period.
  6. Flexibility and durability: Latex finishes have good flexibility, allowing them to withstand minor floor movements without cracking or peeling. They also offer good durability, making them suitable for high-traffic areas.
  7. Non-toxic and safer:Latex finishes are generally considered to be non-toxic and safer to handle compared to some oil-based finishes, which can contain harsh chemicals. This can be an important consideration for those who prioritize eco-friendly and health-conscious options.

Bona is a well-known brand that offers a wide range of products for floor care, including floor stains. Bona floor stains are designed to enhance the natural beauty of wood floors while providing durable and long-lasting color. Bona floor stains come in various shades and colors, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your preferences and complements your existing decor. Some popular stain colors offered by Bona include:

  • Natural: This stain enhances the natural color of the wood, providing a clear and transparent finish.
  • Golden Oak: A warm, light brown color that adds a golden hue to the wood.
  • Provincial: A medium brown shade that adds richness and depth to the wood.
  • Jacobean: A dark brown color that creates a sophisticated and elegant look.
  • Red Mahogany: A deep, reddish-brown hue that gives the wood a classic and timeless appearance.
These are just a few examples, and Bona offers a wide range of other stain colors to choose from. It's always a good idea to test the stain on a small inconspicuous area or a sample board to see how it looks on your specific wood species before applying it to your entire floor. Usually we do a couple floor stain tests on a small area of your floor to see if you like it. Once we get your confirmation on the colot choice, we then proceed to stain the entire floor.

DURASEAL STAINS:

Duraseal is a well-known brand that offers a range of wood stain products. Duraseal stains are popular among homeowners, contractors, and professionals in the flooring industry for their high-quality and durability. These stains are primarily designed for use on hardwood floors, but they can also be used on other wood surfaces such as furniture, cabinets, and trim.

Duraseal stains are available in a variety of colors, allowing you to achieve different finishes and shades on your wood surfaces. Some common color options include traditional wood tones like natural, golden oak, provincial, and dark walnut, as well as more contemporary options like ebony, gray, and white.

One of the notable features of Duraseal stains is their fast-drying formula, which is ideal for projects that require quick turnaround times. They are also known for their excellent color clarity, which means that the natural beauty and grain of the wood are enhanced rather than obscured by the stain.

When applying Duraseal stains, it is important to prepare the wood surface properly by sanding it and ensuring it is clean and free from dust. The stain can be applied using a brush, cloth, or applicator pad, and it is recommended to work in small sections to ensure even coverage. It's also a good idea to wipe off any excess stain after a few minutes to prevent uneven drying and blotching.

After the stain has dried, it is essential to apply a protective finish to seal and protect the stained wood. This step helps enhance the durability of the stain and provides a long-lasting finish.
